Healthwise Massage Therapy
Why should I choose this style? Swedish massage is a great choice if you just wish to lay back, relax and enjoy a wonderful massage. It is also a great introductory massage. Why should I choose this style? Deep Tissue can be very therapeutic for those recovering from an injury, those dealing with chronic muscular pain, or those suffering from arthritis. It can also be quite relaxing and depending on your needs, your massage therapist will incorporate some deep tissue work into your massage. MASSAGE FOR INJURY This form of massage therapy helps relieve chronic and acute pain by working on major muscle in segments with specific, deeper strokes to stimulate the individual muscle fibers. I typically will follow a protocol for a specific problematic area or for a specific condition. Injury massage is effective in treating conditions in the recovery or chronic stages but is not advised during the acute phase of an injury without your doctor’s recommendation. The goal of Injury Massage is to help the client become pain-free. Why should I choose this style? If you have a specific injury that needs attention such as a rotator cuff tear or a knee surgery, Injury massage is a great choice for you. Also if you suffer from chronic pain in a particular area, injury massage can increase blood flow and mobility and decrease swelling. TRIGGER POINT THERAPY/PAIN MANAGEMENT/PAIN REDUCTION TPT is a highly effective technique commonly used to alleviate chronic pain and dysfunction. It is a technique that can be used alone or integrated with other modalities in a session. A trigger point is a firm, palpable, highly irritable spot found in a tight band of muscle fibers that is generally characterized by extreme tenderness. Commonly referred to as “knots,” trigger points are worked by applying direct pressure, deep gliding pressure, and stretching the effected area. Because this work can be particularly intense, we suggest incorporating this technique into your full body massage rather than just receiving trigger point therapy alone. Why should I choose this style? If you have a tight spot in your back that just will not go away or suffer from chronic pain or weakness, this is the treatment for you. Have you carried that knot around with you for years? Does the knot in your back seem to radiate pain down your arm? TPT will help break up that tissue and encourage the body to heal. BAMBOO MASSAGE Why should I choose this style? If you like to receive a little more pressure during a full body massage, this may be the form of massage you may like to try. The bamboo sticks allow me to get deeper into your muscle groups and the heat can help to relieve muscle tension and allow the body to relax and be at east. THERAPCUPPING Every injury, illness, surgery and even toxic substances that we have been exposed to (from conception on) may be present in our body. Our bodies are brilliant in their efforts to protect us from the effects of our history, yet the capacity is limited. Thus, we become fatigued and sluggish due to the incredible demands that today's lifestyles make on our systems and we eventually move into a dis-eased state. Theracupping™ has been developed in order to provide anyone the skills, knowledge and equipment to move toward restored health . . . PRE/POST NATAL MASSAGE Why should I choose this style? The goals of pre-natal and post-natal massage are similar to those of classic massage, to relax and relieve sore muscles, increase circulation and mobility, impart a sense of well being, help you sleep better, and help your body and mind feel good. This is a great choice for any mom to be and a wonderful gift to show your expecting mother how much you care for them.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Generally integrated with Swedish massage, Deep Tissue massage is the firm use of pressure to affect the deep musculature and fascia of the body. Starting superficially and slowly working into the deeper layers of the body, this technique focuses on specific joints, muscles or muscle groups.
ORTHOPEDIC MASSAGE
Orthopedic massage is also a highly effective technique commonly used to alleviate chronic pain and dysfunction. I have developed my own type of Orthopedic massage from the studies of Paul St. Johns Neuromuscular Therapy, Cortiva Institute with Bob King Myofascial and the CORE Institue of Myofascial with George Kouseleos, combined what I have learned from them, added a few extra things of my own from years of practice. This type of treatment is very indepth and focus oriented. It may take me 45 minutes to 75 minutes to treat specific areas that are causing a dysfunction to your body. If you would like a full body massage with the added Orthopedic techniques performed on the "troubled" areas, please schedule for at least a 90 minute massage.
Why should I choose this style? Sometimes the area of pain is only the precurser to your discomfort. The human body is like a puzzle and it takes time and patience to find the causes of the area of discomfort or dysfunction and it also takes time to ease the level of discomfort which you are experiencing.
STONE MASSAGE
Practiced in ancient medicine for centuries, a heated stone massage is a technique that is renowned for its healing and relaxing properties, while providing individuals with a unique way to indulge. This specialty massage utilizes carefully placed heated stones, which is believed to rejuvenate and soothe the body and mind.
A variation of a traditional massage, a heated stone massage utilizes hot stones, generally that are heated in 120 to 150 degree F water. Creme or oils are then massaged into the skin utilizing Swedish massage techniques. This relaxes and makes it easier for the body to absorb heat from the stones. Instead of placing the hot stones on specific points of the body to rest, I prefer to take the stones and actually massage with them. The stones release heat, where they calm and relax the muscles. This type of massage takes 90 minutes and is priced at $80.00 due to the consideration as a specialty massage.
Why should I choose this style? This is a nice way to receive the full benefits from your Swedish Massage. A heated stone massage is believed to have numerous healing properties and can be more beneficial than a traditional massage. The heat can help relieve muscle tension and allow the body to relax and be at ease. A hot stone massage can also help with injury, back pain, poor circulation, osteoarthritis, arthritis pain, stress, insomnia, calm nervous system, and even mental disorders such as depression and anxiety.
Bamboo Massage utilizes the use of heated bamboo/rattan tools specifically made for massaging. Once again, bamboo massage is similar to the stone massage, except I am able to use the heated bamboo to help relieve body tension. The specialized "bamboo sticks" are glided, rolled, criss-crossed on the individual muscle sections during your Swedish/Deep Tissue Massage. Using the bamboo helps me to palpate deeper muscle tissue groups, locating muscle tension making it easier to treat those trigger points. Using the bamboo is like an extention of my fingers. This type of massage takes 90 minutes and is priced at $80.00 as it is considered a specialty massage.
We are a "walking history" of our lives . . .
ACE MassageCupping™ was developed uniquely for massage/ bodywork professionals to address deep "tissue issues" and pathologies that are within massage license guidelines. This technique works quickly and effectively and promotes ease in treatments for practitioners and clients.
By creating suction and negative pressure, Massage Cupping therapy is used to soften tight muscles and tone attachments, loosen adhesions, and lift connective tissue, bring hydrationa and blood flow to body tissues, and drain excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways. Massage Cupping is versatile. Massage Cupping can complement any massage technique. Theracupping is another specialty massage that can be done in any time frame increment, whether you want a specific area done or a full body massage. Please add $5 onto the regular time frame price. For example, a half hour would be $40, one hour would be $60.
Why should I choose this style? Theracupping can be sedative to the nervous system allowing relaxation to take place on a deeper level. On a deeper therapeutic level, theracupping is beneficial for many conditions such as high blood pressure, anxiety, fatigue, chronic headache, fibromyalgia, and neualgia. Body contouring with the cupping can eliminate cellulite, and contracted, congested muscle tissue will soften quickly with only a few minutes of massage cupping bodywork. It will increase the blood supply to muscles and skin, bringing nourishment and allowing toxins to be carried away via the veins. Massage Cupping is not an irritant to the body, it helps to draw inflammation out instead of adding to it.
This type of massage is specifically tailored to your body during and after pregnancy. I am trained to focus on the changes your pregnant body undergoes and are aware of how to best encourage your body to relax and address issues specific to pregnancy. With focus on your legs, low back, shoulders, Pregnancy massage utilizes lots of connective, flowing strokes, our therapist will tailor a massage to your specific body’s needs during and after your pregnancy. Pregnancy massage is performed on a massage table while lying in a side position with many cushions and pillows supporting your body and your baby for your utmost comfort.
HAND/FOOT MASSAGE
If you just like to have your hands or feet massaged, I can spend a half hour or more just specializing on those 2 areas. Surgeries, bunions, or age can make your feet or hands not feel so great anymore. I have found that getting those appendages massaged regularly, helps you get by easier week by week. I recommend getting them done at least 2x a month. Be aware that I do not perform reflexology, this is just a basic feel good, therapeutic massage for the list appendages.
Why should I choose this style? I use specialized hand/foot cremes that are designed to help loosen tight muscles/tendons, and reduce inflammation. Along with my massage techniques, this is a great way to get those feet limbered up again and make walking not so painful.
MPT (MULTICURRENT POSITIONAL TUINA)
Dr. Malvin Finkelstein invented the MPT. MPT is revolutionizing pain treatment. MPT relieves pain and restores normal range of motion to joints in the body. This new method uses only microcurrent electricity and hands-on treatment, yet it achieves dramatic improvements in pain relief and range of motion almost immediately.
MPT offers quick, effective relief for acute and chronic neck, back, shoulder, knee and joint pain, as well as headaches, sinus, respiratory, digestive, gynecological conditions and much more. Patients who are unable to experience relief from other treatment options frequently find relief with MPT.MPT combines treatment:
The “positional” portion of MPT involves positioning the body in specific ways to stretch and maximize access to treatment areas
The final component is patient education. This involves correcting a patient’s posture and advising on beneficial ergonomic adjustments. Postural qigong stretches are recommended to enhance the treatment and for ongoing improvement at the patient’s home.
Why should I chose this style? Well, this may not be something that you can just call in and make an appointment to have the MPT used. During a session, if I find multiple knots, trigger point areas, I may ask your permission to use this tool to see if it can help release the "knots" faster than massage can, and also to improve mobility of your joints.
