Personal
My name is Carla Anderson. I grew up on a farm in the surrounding area, so I've always considered Devils Lake as my 'home town'. I grew up on the backs of many horses and I've always had a passion for animals. I am married to a really great guy, Kent, and we have 3 daughters named Kierra, Jenna and Emma. In my spare time, which is minimal, I enjoy scrapbooking.
Education
I had a dream. It was the most amazing experience! I was a massage therapist! I awoke the next morning and thought, WOW! This was it! This is my calling. In 1995, I was interviewed and accepted to attend the Carlson College of Massage Therapy in Anamosa, Iowa. I graduated with the top honors of my class in 1996. I returned home and began working for a salon. In April 1998, I started Healthwise Therapeutic Massage in the lower level of the Multi Services Building, and now I am moving to the Pederson Building December 1, 2008, taking a business partner and I'm merging into Healthwise Massage Therapy.
My massage style is constantly evolving. It's a combination of what I learned in school, in many continuing education workshops, and simply in the thousands of people I have touched. Nothing can beat years of experience and the knowledge obtained from that experience. So, my work continues to be fresh and interesting, I'm always eager to learn new massage tecniques and approaches.
I see each massage as a unique experience. The goal can be relaxation, or medical related, or more commonly, a combination of both. In all cases, my touch is nurturing and sensitive.
I have been a professional member with the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) since I have been a student in Massage School. I am currently the Treasurer for the Executive Board affiliated with the AMTA-North Dakota Chapter. I have been volunteering my time with this organization since 1999. The AMTA has a wonderful website and I will include a link on the links page. In October 2004, I received the North Dakota Meritorious Award for our state for my dedication to the AMTA-North Dakota Chapter. In, 2006 and 2007, I was chosen to attend the Nationals in Chicago for a 3 day leadership meeting. It was amazing to see what goes on with our chapters at the national level and I was priviledged to get a tour of their beautiful skyscraper offices which overlook Lake Michigan. I am looking forward to my trip to Orlando, Florida coming in the Fall of 2009 to represent our State at the National Convention. It was stiff competition and surprised to have been voted in to be a voice for our state.
